Kenny Slaught admires the keen eye and attention to detail that is essential to designing structures with such artistic excellence. It has been almost 100 years since famous architect George Washington Smith, brought this artistic excellence to Santa Barbara, by what is known as the Spanish Colonial revival. He was a man who dropped out of Harvard to eventually become a bond trader. He eventually moved to the Santa Barbara region anticipating a relaxing lifestyle and planning to work on his painting interests. What came as a surprise was that everyone admired the house he had designed, prompting him to continue creating architectural masterpieces for other local residents. By using authentic materials from Spain and combining new and old world designs, George Smith’s works are sought out and enjoyed for their simplistic beauty and complex design. Known as a founding father for Santa Barbara, subsequent architects have been inspired by his style for many generations.
