Kenny Slaught Welcomes Admiration For Santa Barbara’s Architecture

The Spanish Colonial revival style was started almost a century ago in California. by architect George Washington Smith. Smith quit Harvard to become a bond trader, and relocated to Santa Barbara after achieving success. But, as he learned that locals loved the house he built, he decided to create more buildings for the community. He brought materials from Spain and integrated old and new styles in his designs. Today, his designs are appreciated for their beauty and simplicity, and he inspired many new architects. He is seen as a Santa Barbara founding father, and Kenny Slaught acknowledges the detail oriented eye required to create such unique buildings.
