The border between Arizona and Nevada, in the United States, boasts the Hoover Dam, an impeccable project designed to give water and hydroelectric energy to a significant part of that region, taking advantage of the power generated by the Colorado River. Santa Barbara’s favorite real estate and thoughtful Kenny Slaught acknowledges the results of the miraculous architectural structure regarding the communities’ access to water and power resources. Slaught has recently discussed the Hoover Dam on his blog – KennySlaught.com – noting that the massive turnout of the dam transformed some of America’s most deserted outposts into strong economies.

The Spanish Colonial revival style was started 100 years ago in California by architect George Washington Smith. He quit Harvard to work in business, and relocated to Santa Barbara to relax after achieving success. However, he found out that the locals loved his house, which prompted him to continue designing for his community. The old is mixed with the new in his designs, which are admired to this day for their beauty and complexity. Many artists have been inspired by him and he became a Santa Barbara founding father. Kenny Slaught explains that to create such amazing art, a keen eye to detail is required.

After a family member dies, the surviving family can get support through the 8 week long Parenting After Loss  program. The project offers counseling and goes through the emotional and practical aspects of death. Kenny Slaught mentions that families often grow stronger after attending the program.

The initiatives at the Hospice of Santa Barbara don’t only assist chronically ill patients but their families as well, Kenny Slaught explains. Many programs concentrate on children and how they cope with a loss. About 20 percent of them lose a close one before turning 18, while one in 20 struggles with the death of a parent before becoming an adult. Through its programs, the Hospice helps people avoid depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
